Price for clipping a border collie? Empty Price for clipping a border collie?

Post by angelsmum69 Fri Jan 10, 2014 9:05 pm

Today I received one of those dreaded calls where you have no idea what to charge.  I personally hate clipping the working breeds or the breeds that normally don't require a clip. I quickly quoted $65 for a border collie (old) to be clipped off.  I haven't seen the dog so I'm not sure what condition he's in. I have started a business from home in the past fortnight after a 5 year hiatus (looking after my youngest child) I'm quite out of touch with Victorian prices for grooming.  I'm not offering pick up or delivery either.

Hey there, welcome back to the fold Smile. I groom in rural Vic so have a few Collie's on my books. I think your quote was perfect, I always give a ballpark figure over the phone and probably would have quoted $60-$70. I don't like clipping them either so always warn of the risks and if possible (as long as they aren't badly matted) talk the owner out of it. Most of mine are only clipped once, sometimes twice a year and if it means they're going to be more comfortable as a result because no grooming is done at home and his coat is a mess (matting, grass seeds etc) then I'm happy to oblige. Fingers crossed that he or she has been clipped before especially being an old pooch. Best of luck. Would love to hear how it goes.

Yep between $60-$70 is a good ball park figure.

I have a regular client with two borders that get a 7f all over clip every 8 weeks or so. Charge them $130.
For a casual booking, would  be $75-80 for one border .

I don't charge less than $70 for new clients even for a straightforward shave of a maltese/shitzu.

Prices will vary a bit in different  locations of course.
