Re: more chickens
Tee hee, ones I eat come in plastic too 'cause I'd never kill anything - mine all die of old age This is really just a retirement home for animals

Re: more chickens
We always hatched more roosters too. I think my place is gonna be a retirement home for critters. When my mares are done for breeding, and I am pretty sure this is the last time, I don't think my husband will part with them. They really can't be seperated. Well the mares or my husband....

He sounds like a good man to me. I wouldn't have a partner that didn't love animals, anyway they'd never put up with me and my horde if they didn't

Re: more chickens
New babies! 5 chicks hatched out yesterday and today. they are so fuzzy cute. I hope they are all hens and not gay roosters!
we have 14 roosters and only 4 hens from the chicks we bought last year.

How can you tell the sex when they are small? We are up to 7 now.

Re: more chickens
It is very hard to sex them but I can tell you that I hatch more roosters than hens. I do know that with some peeps, if they have a black spot on their head, yes, that is a rooster.

Chicken sexing is a highly skilled job. When my husband asked how to tell the sex of geese the laconic salesman said " if they lay eggs they are a female"......very helpful....not!!
