Tissues out ladies and gents

Here is a beautiful poem I have just come across, in fact I have printed it out and put it in a photo frame in the salon.

                        JUST A DOG

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the
costs involved for "just a dog".

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only companion was "just a dog" but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably
understand phrases like "just  a friend," "just a sunrise," or
"just a promise." "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog,"  I rise early, take long walks, and look
longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an
embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts
away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog,"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man or woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog" just smile . . .
because they "just don't understand."

How absolutely true!!!... I actually had a friend say that to me the other day ..She was apologising for getting upset when she got a call that one of the greyhounds her family trains died unexpectedly only 4 yrs old and as i said to her if it was 'Just a dog" then why am i crying with you??? Truth is only fellow dog owners can trully understand how much more than "just a dog" it is!!...Thanx for sharing this i too will be printing it out and sharing with others Very Happy

Tissues out ladies and gents

Post by Destiny on Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:38 pm

My dogs mean more to me, than what a lot of people do. Thats not to say, I dont like people.
But I prefer to spend my life, with my two dogs, rather than get into another relationship.
My dogs have given me so much pleasure, and happiness, I cannot describe it.
I am totally content, and happy, living my life, with my two dogs.
My whole world is build around them, they are my life. And thats not a sad thing, thats a good thing.
I will not be apoligising to anybody when my boys leave. And it is really sad, that anyone feels, that they have to apoligise for losing the most loyal creature on this earth. And one that they dearly loved.
