Elliott the rescue poodle
Thought I would introduce Elliott who I brought home today, he is a standard poodle (rescue) Poor baby is only 14kgs, got desexed today and was riddled with fleas. The vet also shaved him as he was severly matted. I am feeding him 5x day of chicken mince and advance puppy dry. If any of you poodle owners have any advice on helping this man im all ears! I hope to post pics of him fat and happy in a few months time. He is only 2yr old.

Re: Elliott the rescue poodle
Poor bugger, I have a white standard female myself. Being a vet nurse all i can say is feed, feed and feed, lots of small meals. puppy food is great so is chicken mince/beef mince/roo mince and vegies. He can prob gain 5-10kg.
I feed my baby with a raised bowl to help digestion and save her bending down, she looks so uncomfortable when she has to bend down to eat.
To help keep him entertained i would use a kong wobbler as it will fed him and provide nutrition in one.
Hope this helps

Poor little man...Praise God you now have him and he can be on the road to recovery
Yes lots of small meals sounds like the go so he doesn't get to full all at once but is getting plenty to eat at the same time...I dare say with regular feeding and some good old fashioned TLC he will be looking and feeling much better in no time

I am shocked at how thin he is poor thing. My dog has trouble keeping weight on, I found the best food that keeps weight on him is a dog roll called Tucker Time. It also has pre and probiotics. if you check out their website they have a list for their closet retailer near you and more info on their products. Never tried the dried food but I know the roll is really good and very dense with meat.

OMG.....I would like to starve whoever did this to that sweet dog. I want him. I wish I lived a whole lot closer.

Poor baby. I do work at a shelter and see many malnourished dogs come in, it just breaks your heart. How can anyone let this happen to their dog? Jonna I agree, starve the people who did this to him. Oh if I could find the people out there that mistreat dogs and animals, someone would have to hold me back I'm so glad you're taking care of him and showing him love.

That poor wee dog. I hope his previous owner is being prosecuted for neglect. As the others have said. Lot of little meals each day and lots of TLC and he will be looking great in no time.

Sardines, cheese, probiotic yoghurt, oil, as well as what you're giving. Once he's got weight on him, don't witty too much. Some dogs are naturally lighter than others
