Colourful Scotland
We have this little guide , I thought might show you that we do colouring over here sometimes.
Creative Colours
1~ Make sure your dog is clean and all grooming/clipping is completed.
2-Using belly straps, etc. as needed, make sure they are (comfortably) positioned so they wont be
jumping around, wiggling etc.. if you have a wiggler.. good luck :p
3~Select your blo-pen colours and make sure they're ready to use & in reach.
You do not want to be trying to get them sorted after youve started colouring.
4~ figure out exzactly where you want your stencil & position it.
5~Using one hand to hold the stencil in place, start with the outline. the stencil will create a sharp edge &
the colour will soften on the inside edge.
6~ If using a large stencil try to do one whole side first (you can see where I used 2 colours to create
the dolphin outline, I did the Purple first so if the stencil slipped it was easy to re-position it)
7~ create all your outlines & essential (eyes for instance, you dont want to try repositioning them
later cause theyre in the wrong place.
8~ Start filling in your darker colours, Shading, etc. anything you want to stand out.
9~Fill in the rest of the colours, & make sure stuff like eyes, stand out, if not.. use black or another darker
colour to create contrast.
10~Add any background bits to compleate the picture, in this case ive added waves & sea spray effect
11~leave to sit for a few minutes
12~ Take a paper towel and press flat against the tatoo, this will absorb excess ink & help it to dry faster.
repeat a few times as needed.
13 You can apply a light spray of hairspray to help seal it if it seems to be rubbing off still.
( I like a glitter spray, adds a nice touch.)
The Finished Effect

I was lucky and got a set of 10 for $9.95 at Big W... you have to be lucky to get them though. I don't know if they will order them in for you though.

Blopens are hard to find in the US, too. The stores seem to have them hit and miss. I have seen online where you can order them. I guess that's the easiest way to go, however I don't know what the shipping would cost you in Australia...unless there are local sites for you to order from. Guess I'll have to google that one again.
I like using blopens, but they don't last long for large jobs.....and you can get a wee bit light headed from all the blowing. LOL. Before starting a coloring project, make sure you have multiple pens of the same color handy. When doing our Santa Paws dog (Bichon), we had to improvise on the boots for the black color. Ran out of black blopen while doing the belt and used red, blue and green to make black on the boots. It worked well, just a lot, LOT, of blowing.

Re: Colourful Scotland
I will have to stalk Big W for a while I had my first client today asking for a mohawk and colour, well I did the mohawk kind of but obviously didn't have the right product to keep it standing up........any suggestions. What is the best colouring product to use if the owner doesn't want it to last very long, can you use human hair colour spray?

Groomroom-
Yes you can use human colour hairspray, or sidewalk chalk or the blow pens. (Colour hairspray will also make the mohawk stand up)
All of these products will washout or were out over about a week.
The only perm or Semi perm are Pet Esthe and dyex

Re: Colourful Scotland
do any of these short-term colours rub off on the furniture?? would hate a customer coming back complaining about the cleaning bill on the velvet lounge suite

Yes Susanne they do ie- chalk, food colouring, blowpens and hairspray.
I have found the blowpens to be not rubbing off from my experience but i always warn people it might so they are aware.
The Pet esthe and dyex don't as the are semi-perm and they have a new one out in oz not sure of the name but it is not perm and doesn't rub off.

Peta, is the new colour that you're talking about the one that they have at Parklea Markets? I got 2 tubs of it before Christmas, but still haven't had time to use it LOL The brand is Top Performance, and it is supposed to be semi perm... last about 6-8 washes (fading each time I guess) It's the one that they have in the Pet Edge catalogue.

colourful scotland
WELL, This got me back in the mood for COLOURING
I had a client come in today that I coloured their malts ears and tail at xmas with red dyex(still looks good-and she washes the dog every week) anyway tomorrow been the 14th feb and all that, I put 2 red hearts on the malt, one on the shoulder and one on the hip(different sides) topped off with a red and white bow !!! BUT I didn't have my camera with me so I couldn't take a photo Yes I did use an airbrush (battery operated purchase from Big W) so they are only temporary but she loved it ...............
That top performance colour from parklea markets - can you tell me the price and did you buy it from the pet shop or the lady that sells the dog clothes ?? what colours does it come in?
I just love colouring !!!!! I'm looking at getting a REAL airbrush and doing some wayout stuff !!!!!

He he Stardreaming, I was thinking just the same thing today while I was busy grooming. I was going to put some love hearts on my little dog as well and got all excited about trying the colouring side of things. I will go and visit Kmart tomorrow and see what I can come up with, plus look into getting some colours. Thanks for the inspiration all of you. Lisa.
