Rescue Kitty
This guy showed up at my bus.partners house about 5 wks ago, emaciated, vomitting and shaking, so of course, we took him in. He has been staying at the salon (we both have our own cats at our homes). We took him to the vet to find out why he was so scrawny and he is hyper thyroid. We have been treating him with meds and he was doing a bit better, actually started putting on some weight and getting the sparkle back in his eyes. Last weekend he took a bad turn and stopped eating, drinking etc. Sooooooooooo we took him back to the vet and had the whole blood panel done. He had some issues but nothing major other than the thyroid and a heart murmur. I am now force feeding him 3 times a day and we have upped his meds but I just thought maybe I could ask for some good thoughts for this poor little old man. He is a great cat and if I didn't have a special needs, diabetic cat at home he would be living with me right now. Here he is Rocky

I feel so much for strays. That's very sweet of you to take him in and take care of him.
I miss my strays from the past and wonder how they are.
Toke care of so many of them in such bad sharp before...

Oh my Shona, he is scrawny. You are such a good samaritan. I can't do that here, several feral cat colonies nearby. Just horrid, poor things.
The vet didn't find something else? I think Rocky has another medical issue. Good luck Rocky, love your name.

Re: Rescue Kitty
I try to help a pack for 2 yrs talking to every humane society, shelter, rescues....and no one would help me. It was ridiculous.
Every place's full nowadays and all they would say is just pay them to rent out a trap from them....and then bring them in and pay them again for spray/neuter....then they would have to stay with you before they are all better so you are free them again. Which I can't do for many reasons. Plus alot of them were feral so it was crazy. I have my favs that warmed up to me and started to love Odie but there's no way Odie would allow them to come in. He would not like that at all.

Re: Rescue Kitty
Well Rocky is doing much better. He is eating on his own and eating a lot. I think what happened is the girls were puttting his meds into his food but not watching when he ate to make sure he actually swallowed the pills. Now I just put his meds down his throat everyday, he doesn't appreciate my efforts but that's ok. I'm going to weigh him today and see what he is at now but I think he has gained at least a pound. I wish I could just take him home, he's such a nice boy.

Yeah, he wasn't getting his meds. I don't know of a cat you don't have to force pill. Glad he is getting stronger.

Re: Rescue Kitty
Go Rocky! Go Rocky! Meds can be tricky...I will shove it down if I have to......but Fluffy used cream cheese effectively to hide her dog's pills. I guess, like everything, every animal is different. I've had one that would hold the pill for minutes, then spit it He could also detect a pill in a piece of prime steak.
Keep us informed CG. I was thinking of Rocky when I met a beautiful cat needing re-homing at the pet shop.....

Re: Rescue Kitty
Sound scary but I would force feed any Med to make sure they eat it. It takes alot of trust and they alway hate it but you just have to.
One of my stray in the past keep getting beat up cause I couldn't let him in... it was really bad one time that I had to take him to the vet cause I think a dog chased and bit him on the face. It wasn't fun getting him to let me flush/clean out the wounds at least twice a day and give him this pills.
That's awsome Rocky's doing better.

Re: Rescue Kitty
So how's he doing?
Think I am building a new pack where I am once again..
New one have one dilated eye and last night 2 other came by and the one with the dilated eye got all piss defending my yard.
I don't even feed any of them as they are in good weight.

Re: Rescue Kitty
Rocky passed away sometime Sunday night, not sure why but he was old and we think he may have had a tumor. For a cat who I only knew for the past few months, he made a big impression on me and I'm going to miss him.
RIP Rocky
