I have a gorgeous Standardbred mare and she has an 'outing' arranged soon and I'm wanting her to look her best, however she has a fluffy belly where the winter fuzz hasnt yet fallen out Very Happy. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of how to remove this without using a jute rug and preferably without the need for water (i.e shampoo's) as I only have acess to a dam and I don't think she's keen to go swimming! All ideas welcomed, cheers guys!

My partner has used a Universal slicker before. Is it ready to come out yet? How about one of those rubber grooming mits? Let us know how you go.

I used a normal rubber curry the other day but used it in a small circular motion. It certainly lifted all the loose hair that seemed to be really close to the skin, where the normal body brush just "ran" over, but some of it just refused to budge so musnt be ready to come out yet. So now she's only semi-fuzzy and I'll jujst have to wait for nature Laughing

i know i am late in the post but.....

a #10 blade... if she is all shed out xcept a couple of spots... shave it off...
if she doesnt handle the clippers i would use a curry.. some horses dont like the slicker brush on their bodies but it works great for manes and tails..

here is 3 of my 4

Look at the thickness of that snow? What breed are they? Do you rug them? How do they survive with their legs in constant snow like that? Sorry, we don't get snow here that thick and I'm sure they're of some breed that is suited to that, but it still blows the mind a bit.

that snow was a freak thing for us... we usually only get a light "dusting" of snow about 1 inch and then it all melts within a couple of hours.. i have been here 20 years and this is the first time is was so deep, 16" and it lasted a week.. we had to scoop the snow out of the corrals... the mustangs grow enough coat they dont need to be blanketed.. the MFT was cold but would not LET me blanket him.. so they got xtra food and a bale of straw under their feet..

black horse.. pure mustang mare caught in northern calif
smutty dun.. black mustang is his mom, dad was a quarter horse(gelding)
chestnut.. is a 2 year old missouri fox trotter colt

yeah.. we scooped all the snow out of their corrals.. the area they are running in is their "turn out" while we scooped.. if we got snow like that all the time i would have to have a BARN
