Haw, haw, haw
Over at GTG I was told F&T, which of course I don't have. So...I guess I will use the degreaser I have. I am just worried because he will be hard to rinse. Cat fur is very hard to rinse.

Re: Skunked cat
you either need something to strip the oils out of the coat (f&t) or a shampoo with enzymes... or it wont work.. it could actually make the smell worse.. can you run to petsmart tonight and buy something??? then charge it to the client

Re: Skunked cat
Successful! He was so good and was actually a persionX. Ared tabby shorthair. Actually it was easy so the bill was much lower than I had originally expected. I thought she said he was a matted longhair.

Re: Skunked cat
First I put EZ Groom's DEsolve on him before bath for 15 minutes. Then washed him with some of that but diluted. Gave him a blueberry facial, lol then used the EZ Groom Hypo. I thought I smelled just a trace of skunk on his head...just a little....so I used Kelco Filthy Animal. I did miss a little on his one front paw. Wanted to fix that but he was played. Customer was ecstatic. He really was good and I got a big tip.

Re: Skunked cat
Just a question, has anyone tried using soda bicarb as well as the shampoo's? That's what I use for smellies.

Re: Skunked cat
Hi Barbara. When I mix up the shampoo (I do it for each one in a 1.5l jug), I put a handful in the mix - put shampoo in jug first, then the bicarb and swish it together to mix it, then add the water and use. If you still think it's a bit smelly, grab a handful and rub it on neat. It feels extra slimy on the coat.

Re: Skunked cat
I will try that bicarb and shampoo mix on a very smelly 18year old maltese x that I groom - maybe it will help. Thanks for that.

I haven't unless they would send me a free sample. I guess I have accumulated enough crap in the shop to concoct something up.

Re: Skunked cat
My cat got skunked, I don't think it was a direct hit, but I think he was close. He smells bad enough to stink up the first floor of my house. He does not appear to be in any distress or discomfort, his behavior is unchanged, so I'm not worried about it affecting him that way. I've heard that tomato juice works, but I've also heard that is just an old wives tale. Does anyone have any suggestions for what works best to get out skunk smell. Also any suggestions on ways to rid my house of the smell would be much appreciated. Before anyone tells me to open windows and air it out, that's not really an option right now. We're right in the middle of a heat wave, setting record temps, so turning the A/C off to open windows and doors would be quite difficult.

Re: Skunked cat
It doesn't work. The skunk off does. Dawn dish soap works, dilute it. You have to degrease the skunk oil. Water just reconstitutes it, that's why they stink when they get wet again.

Re: Skunked cat
Google the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dish soap recipes for the exact recipe. It works. tomato juice makes a mess.
