Re: RAW FEEDING.....
NZ Groomer as far as I know there was an old belief that chicken pieces were dangerious to dogs, they were and they still are. That's because years ago before the forced raised style we have today, they only had free range, so the bones were older and more brittle. Still don't feed your dogs free range bones, but most of the meat you buy nowadays are forced raised battery hens fully grown at about 3 months old, so their bones never get a chance to get brittle. PS, same goes with cooked bones, raw only.

I was led to believe that its the cooked bones that are brittle and splinter.

How many dogs do you have Tammy?
We dont have leonards here that I know of. But there is a poultry abator about 15 to 20 minutes away. Probably have to buy in bulk.
out here we have a fortnight delivery to the local shop & hotel from the butcher company on the coast, I got them to deliver a bulk mix of frames, necks and kennel mince every 6 weeks, costs me about $180 to feed 4 saints & a kangaroo hound, thats about $30 p/w for 5 big dogs. The dogs have 2 freezers and a fridge...............i have one Raw food has been the best diet for my dogs over the years, when I had my toy poodles they happily ate the necks and if they could grab a frame, they would!! I start my saint pups at 3 weeks of age on necks and frames...

Wow my dogs wouldn't touch raw fish(fresh off the boat) which was particularly strange as my weinmaraner will usually eat anything.

Brooke, she was so funny with the head....It was so heavy and she tackled it so gently at first......then she just opened those big jaws and crunched away...

Re: RAW FEEDING.....
Just read an article in the Sunday mail re The Guide Dogs for the Blind changing to completely RAW feeding. They currently have about 200 dogs to feed incl pups, adult breeders and those in training. They were offered dry food from a highly reputable company for free but refused. They now report that their vet bills are down by over 80%. No more ear infections, skin conditions, teeth problems or urinary tract infections, etc, etc Dogs have better vitality and in more lusterous condition.. They say they can feed for approx. $2 a day. Great news and thought very interesting!!!

Re: RAW FEEDING.....
I would have to agree with the lower cost and fewer problems...My dogs go to the vet once a year for heartworm and vaccs...it is very rare for me to have to take them to the vet for something i cannot handle at home as part of my daily care routine...They are all healthy and strong
