Please if anyone knows of any of these dogs that need re homed or rescued please let me know. I have two of the few that are in Australia and will be willing to help them find homes or care for them until one comes along. The dog in my avatar is a Sarplaninac.

Most ppl have not heard of them as they are a rare breed. They are not registered as a breed in Australia I don’t know why but have been registered internationally since 1972. They come from the area bordering Serbia and Macedonia. Where they were and still are used as a herd guarding dog. They will be left to live with the herd and make all the decisions on the welfare of the herd, therefore, they are highly intelligent. A Sarplaninac will be loyal to only its owner and protect them and anything on the property from anything. As such they need to be socialised form an early age but will normally take the cue form you if you feel threatened by something they will protect you from it. The history of the breed is a little sketchy but it is believed that they were bred around the time of Alexander the Great as camp guardians and war dogs. will post photos when I make them small enough to fit.
