RABBITS ANYONE !!
well i've gone and booked in a wascaly wabbit for tomorrow.......HELP!!!
i did do a rabbit maaaaaany years ago,and found out they have thin ,loose skin, powerful legs, and tails you can easily chop right off! .......so this one is an angora, fairly badly matted
I guess it will need clipping....should i go with the safe 'ol 10# ?? i think you can also sort of tear mats off rabbits and cats?? whats the story with that
thanks in advance .........

Re: RABBITS ANYONE !!
I clipped a Dwarf rabbits nails the other day and she was absolutly beautiful. Owner held her and we put a blanket over her head. Better than any dog, and I also used the small puppy nail clippers. One tip, rabbits are terrified of dogs, so don't groom her where she can smell any other dogs you have around if that is possible and keep her as calm as possible. BTW keep her away from the mauve spotted dalmation!!!!!

Re: RABBITS ANYONE !!
I clipped an angora a few years ago. It was matted bad Took me about 3 hours. I used 10's, 15's, 30's, and the occaisional 40, so if you can get away with a 10, good for you. Their skin is as thin as a cats, and they won't stand the way you want... not like a dog. You can't set them up and have them stay. You may need another pair of hands around. Is the owner staying? Also did another one... this time just the privates... was coated with half dry half wet diarrhea/pee mix. As for tearing the mat off I would think that it would take the skin with it, unless it was in the early stages (like a moulting Sibe where you can pull the chunks out - good fun BTW), after all, don't they make Akubra's out of wabbit fur???. Good luck, and don't forget the pics

Re: RABBITS ANYONE !!
well ZigZag was MATTED ....he bought a full body helmut in with him! all his back and aroung his neck was pelted.
Thankfully, our forum member bdavey(barbara) came to visit and observe some grooming today,so i had an extra pair of hands. I doubt she'd bargained on a wabbit though, but did a fantastic job at Wabbit Whisperer for me.Actually,ZigZag was pretty good ,for a rabbit !
So we started with a 10 ,and that was slow going ,so after trying a few other things,we pulled out a brand new Buttercut 15 # ,and had more success with that. I picked ,mashed and snipped my way through.
Its not a pretty sight, and unfortunately i didnt get a after shot ...but we gave him kinda a schnauzer style, short back ,neck, chest and tail and down half his back legs ,and completely left the underside, which was not matted.

WELL DONE
Better You than ME !!!
I HATE rabbits - can't hold them, will only clip their nails if someone else is holding them

I grew up on a farm & our neighbour had Angora rabbits, from memory the fur was pulled out not clipped at all.

Well done! The only bunny I ever had cancelled. I would have used a 15 or 30.

Nice work Em. The last rabbit I did had to be done with a 10/15/30. Looks like you were using a 5 or 7.

Poor thing. I'm sure she feels much better. Great groom! How long did it take? What did you charge?
