Working Visa for dog groomers??
Just wondering if anyone's had anything to do with getting a business visa for a groomer to come work in Australia?
It would have to be an Employer Sponsored visa - its a 457 Long Stay visa..
the furthest i've gotten is that firstly, the occupation must be listed on the Specifications of Occupations List.. or the Skilled Occupations List.
Surprise, surprise, Dog Groomer is not on there, though every other possible occupation seems to be there. So unless what they'll be doing can come under any other job title, it cant progress any further.
I've definately heard of Japanese groomers working in salons here in Oz with a visa... i just don't know how they're going about getting one for them. I know a great groomer who lives in Japan who I'd love to get over here to work for me! But she's already been out on a working holiday visa so can't apply for that again.
anyone have any info?? Of course, on that note, if there are any other experienced groomers here already in Oz who are looking for work in Brissy in the near future i'd love to hear from them too... but that is a hard thing to find, in my past experience!
i'd love to hear if anyone knows anything about this process.

Re: Working Visa for dog groomers??
I can't help, unfortunately, but I'd love to know if we, as Australian groomers, can get overseas and work as a groomer. It seems highly unfair that someone can do bar work but not grooming I'm interested in working in the UK or the US or even Japan at some point and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Re: Working Visa for dog groomers??
Char, you can come here and work! (US)
I would love to pick your brain! Here, anyone can say they are a groomer,, (I went to school, yes) but there are a lot of hacks out there. I an a good PET groomer and have a nice little shop so if you are ever this way, you are welcome,as is anyone from AU!!

Awesome I love your doggies! I'm not very good yet, I've only been grooming for about 4-5 years now, but I LOVE seeing other groomers work... the ones in my area aren't very friendly tho. I guess most people are like that when they consider you competition, eh.

I used to work with Jenny when she was going through all of that. She put in a lot of work so she would know.

Re: Working Visa for dog groomers??
We currently have an employee on a sponsored 457 visa. The
rules have changed over the last year or so and it was an involved process to
get him here. We needed to show what % our business spent on training and also
had to submit our business financials as well as other detailed information. I
suggest you contact a migration agent for some advice. I used Colin Bear colin@oakleyward.com.au and he was excellent. If you contact him tell
him that you were referred to him by Gary at Clipper World.
Also the issue with dog groomers is that there is no
national qualification relating directly to this occupation. I am told this
will change shortly and there will be Certificate 3 and 4 courses available.

Lewis Law ( http://www.lewislaw.com.au/ ) in Sydney specialise in this area and I am of the understanding they have successfully assisted in the procurement of 12 month work visa's for a couple of groomers from the United States to work in Salons here.
