never heard of this happening!
Yesterday my helper was bathing a yorkie and said, "We have a problem"
Thank God she is not the panicing type.
The dogs two middle pads on a front foot got STUCK in the grate in the tub.
This grate came with the tub and is coated in heavy plastic with little diamond shaped holes.
My husband had to get the wire cutters and cut the grating around her foot. Had a heck of a time, the dog was so calm. After getting the part around his foot free, he had to cut so carefully the last snip between two toes. I never could have done it , it is very thick.
I am soooo lucky he was home!
Then, two pliers and pull it apart enough to get her toes out.
It was very scary!!!
I told the owners what happened and they were great about it. I think I would have had to call the fire dept. if he wasn't home.
When I first got the tub I was not using the grates at all, but with my back, even the extra few inches height wise helps.
So, today I go get rubber bath mats and cover the grates with it.
I don't know why this never occured to me before because my kennels have grates and I have ALWAYS put towels down under the dog...they are usually just waiting in there. anyway, lesson learned..

Only once have I heard of it a long time ago. Was in an old bathtub, and the nail got caught in the drain hole. The place was attached to a vet, and the vet had to sedate the dog I think. Decking can also rip out nails too... sort of related

Re: never heard of this happening!
Roxie a few years back now got her nails (really long coz badly neglected before i rescued her) got caught in the drain of the shower recess (the place i bathed them b4 i set up the tub) and that was scary coz she wasn' t so calm and i was worried she would rip them out!! Thankfully i was able to get it out without dismantling the bathroom
