My first attempt at creative colouring- I'm hooked!

Post by Pawcasso on Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:56 pm

Hey guys,

This was my first attempt at creative colouring. This is Tristabelle and she belongs to Jodie Graham at Groomers Friend. This was completed at the grooming workshop I attended last month. The concept was my idea, the majority of the groom was my work but obviously I needed some help with the finishing touches. Cannot wait to try out something similar on my own poodle.

Trista before.

Trista after

I feel in love with this girl Smile

I know it's not the most brillant job, or the most creative groom but I just thought I would share with everyone.

Nice work... liking the two tone effect. Was she recently cut off from a continental, or growing into one? What's with the second pic... looks like she just ummm, let one go Laughing Embarassed affraid

Hahah hadn't noticed Jodie's expression before! Shocked
Oh sorry I probably should have explained the cut, she was growing into a continental clip.

Great Tegan and thanks for posting your pics, they are great to see. I love the pom pom tail! The tail and the colour, it's like a big full stop at the end of her body LOL

The colours were dyex, thought that it was easy enough to work with but my glove split so I had a purple hand for about a week Embarassed

The two tone was a challenge, I did the purple first, waited for it set, washed it out and then did the pink. You can't see it in the pictures very clearly but I also did purple streaks in the ears too which was also a bit of a challenge. Took me 5 hours to do this girl, thankfully she was very patient!

Beautiful job Tegan cheers cheers I have not attempted any colouring yet but i did suggest it to one of my bichon owners.......she gets a #7 shave down and the tail left long, so it will be just the tail. Now that you have the experience have you got any pointers Smile

Wow girl, you have patience too! I think we have all had coloured hands..bleach is effective Smile Standard poos are usually patient as they have been groomed from babies ( hopefully) Can't wait to see more of your creative efforts and thanks for the tip on dyex. I don't have a white dog that owners will allow me to dye right now but I remain hopeful.

Lovely work Tegan. Was the Jodie Graham course good value? Have been thinking about doing some extra training, but not sure where to go.

I loved Jodie's course Trish. It was a great mixture of practical clipping and also theory, based around starting and effectively operating a salon. As a complete beginner I found it really informative and well structured. You should give them a ring and ask them about it, they are really lovely and helpful people Smile

I have just done my white standard poo but he is not a patient thing. Stubborn male. I did a different colour on each sock but love your two tone. I can imagine the challenge after doing his tail all four colours. I like colour but it is time consuming I think. I had a friend that did the course with Jodie Graham after doing another course she wasnt too happy with. She loved Jodie's course and couldnt speak highly enough of it. Did you use the clippervac there???

I will attempt to post my first colour pic.........

Well done! I am not so creative

Looks pretty good but it was a bit hard to see Wink Had to laugh Michelle, my girls are way better than Louis to groom. He flops, leans, folds up or fidgets - and I'm trying to scissor a show coat! Thank goodness he's black and I'll never want to dye him.....Leia is a different matter...
Boys are very loving though Smile

Thanks! I will try again with the middle option. I know I have done it before so will try again. The colours were bright and he was a hit at the pet expo here in Darwin today esp with the kids. Everyone called him the rainbow dog and he was so good with all the attention.
Yes! He is very loving and loyal but boy so difficult to get anything done. Maybe I need a girl???????? I could easily be persuaded

Well my standard boy is extremely patient.............that doesn't mean he loves it, but he puts up very little resistance.......... he isn't white though Rolling Eyes . The other 4 standards i do are all girls and they are all wonderfully patient Very Happy

Yes they did use the clipper vac there, and now I am so used to it I am having trouble clipping without it! They are bringing out a new model of the clippervac, apparently it will have twice the holding capacity of the current model. I have put my name down for a pink one!!

I loved your colouring on your std poo! Well done Smile

I learnt without a clipper vac and then a friend of mine who did training with Jodie used a vac. I fell in love with it. I am waiting for the new model too............ BUT now I am scared I wont be able to run with it. Do you think I could pick it up easily enough or would you suggest proper training with it?
My Poo did receive lots of attention at the Pet Expo, I think just because he was so bright and out there. He certainly had shock value. I plan to get a bit more creative now but it is such a huge job colouring.

The other standards I do are all lovely to groom so maybe mine is just a naughty one or I am hoping just being a puppy!!
