[quote="Aunty Marg"] Your ability to groom improves greatly if you are confident around a bossy dog or calm and level with a frightened one. In our salon we practice what we call' persistant patience' you stay level and calm in all situations and that brings the dog into the same state.

This is interesting what you say here Aunty Marg.
I have noticed when I get in and groom a dog and say nothing to it ,it behaves, and seems to be a little unsure of me, and how to react.
But then if I start to talk to it , it changes its behaviour. Like it then becomes more confident to play up., and it does.
I guess we have to learn some dog phycology as well.

We talk a little to the dogs but the tone is most importaint. stuff like 'thank you, good boy stand up little one"etc but always in a level quiet tone. We are also aware of our own levels. Saturday can get very hectic and noisy and we need to keep a lid on ourselves because if we wind up so do the dogs and it is a upwards spiral.
When the groom is all said and done the kisses and cuddles abound Very Happy sunny

Marg that is what i am like... I went for work experiance at a BIG salon and lets just say i would never go back.

The would all yell and sing and be very hyper and then take the dogs out of the cage and start ruffeling them up before the clip.. And they wonder why the dogs move around so much and wont sit still.

the experiance there made me worry all salons where like that....

This site proffed me wrong .. Thankgod.

Oh my we have been known to sing !!
Reading my post we sound very serious we actually have a lot of fun. but we do try and keep it generally level. There are many types in this industry, to make realy realy good money you need to operate like a machine. Some salons loose the relationship with the dog for time management and targets.
Most of us do just fine making a living without loosong the joy of interacting with the dogs. In fact that is the only way to enjoy a long career love what you are doing and look after your body (eg bend ze knees when lifting).

Ultimatly if you finish up with your own business it will be whatever you want it to be. Listen and watch and take notes so that yours will be the combination of all the good things you have seen in others.
