Sorry, missed this Topic. I'm another Jim's Dog Wash franchisee from the Geelong region (I actually live 30 mins out on the Bellarine Peninsula at St Leonards but cover the whole Geelong area). Came to dog grooming after a lifetime love of dogs but a lifetime income from admin/finance sector. A 'retrenchment' made me re-assess my life and what I really wanted - now I'm a groomer and wish I'd come to it 20 years ago! My hubbie is a groomer also, which helps when we 'unload' at the end of the day re dog's nasty bottoms, unpleasant clients, blades needed, etc Very Happy We were grooming our Westies for conformation showing for a couple of years before this become a profession, which helped with the initial change, but are always looking for new ways to learn and grow as groomers. I think a love of animals, empathy and patience can't be taught or bought but there are always more talented and experienced people to learn from. Thanks all for your valuable postings.

Welcome to you Westie. Westies aren't the easiest for me... just haven't had enough of them to practice on either Wink

I enjoy Westie grooming, mostly because it's comfortable after so long doing our own and now quite a few clients. We started with hand stripping so clipping is a breeze after that! There are a few breeds that I never feel I get just right tho, we all have our favs Smile Looking forward to getting a few of the DVDs I've read about here to learn some more about the harder ones.

Hi all at Aussie Pet Groomer!! Have just signed up ...Hope we can all offer tons of help and share info.Ive only been grooming for 6 yrs and only do small dogs... Age has finally caught up with me. I love all coated dogs as I began as a teenager showing and breeding scotch collies in S>A> in the sixties..I lived in Darwin for fifteen years where my husband and I bred and showed the GSD' that he so admired. I have no dogs now as we are travelling but my grooms are my "clayton" dogs. Love it with a passion. I am at Bribie Island,Queensland and there are several groomers here both home based and mobile. As it is huge with retirees here the little fellas are most popular.I have steady really regular clientele....great since I only started as a hobby after I worked in a grooming salon in the city for 6 years part time as I had kids at school and uni in there. Can't imagine ever retiring although I only work 3 days a week and in winter some weeks 2 days.I don't advertise and I like to do the whole process myself. The drying time is a great opportunity to "build and bond " a relationship with the little cuties, especially new pups.I have about 6 cages and 2 commercial dryers and at this time of year we are of cours in great demand...I try to keep the prices really resonable too...especially my long term customers...they've hardly had a raise!!!!!Hope this isn't too much of a ramble.....Please keep the info flowing. Very Happy

Welcome Sinner, great to have another Queenslander on board. I am about 40 mins(I think) south of you, at Deagon. 6 years is a long time compared to my meagre 6 months lol!

Introduction

Post  DoggyDoos on Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:23 pm

Hi! My name is Trish and I am from Berwick Victoria. I am a mobile dog groomer and have been grooming dogs for 1 year. I am looking forward to learning from the more experienced groomers here on this forum. It's great to finally have a forum for Australian groomers where we can share ideas and information.
